BP has a clear leadership position in Azerbaijan through its 35.8% operating share of the Azeri, Chirag and Gunashli, (ACG) fields (1.5 bn bbl net); 25.5% operating share of the Shah Deniz Gas Condensate field as well as its additional two exploration PSAs: Inam (25%) and Alov (15%). The scale of the potential resource makes Azerbaijan a key element in BP’s upstream strategy focusing on the discovery and development of low-cost, high volume resources. It has been identified as one of BP's five major new profit centres. The giant ACG (oil/gas) and Shah Deniz (gas/condensate) fields lie in the Azerbaijan sector of the South Caspian Sea, approximately 100 km south of Baku in water depths ranging from 50m to 500m. The ACG fields are currently producing in excess of 650mbd through the Chirag, Azeri (CA, WA & EA) and Deep water Gunashli (DWG) platforms, with a Drilling programme on each platform continuing to develop the Fields. The ACG project has established a “production line” of projects in Baku with the recently installed Chirag Oil Project (West Chirag Platform). The Chirag platform is of an older design, and has been in Production since 1997, it currently produces around 75mbd/d with the bulk of its Gas going to the SOCAR treatment facility for gas transmission to the state. The Shah Deniz Alpha Platform a TPG 500 design is currently producing in excess of 950mmscf/d and 55mdb/d of condensate which equates to around 215mboe/d In addition to this portfolio the Shah Deniz Phase 2 Project has just been announced as sanctioned, this massive Offshore and Onshore Gas development Project is the next Project development that BP are currently committed to here in the Caspian, this alongside other Project related works make the Caspian Region an interesting place to be.
Role synopsis
Openings exist for Offshore Operations Team Leaders (OTL) to join any of the seven ACG/SD Platforms’ Operation teams Offshore Azerbaijan. There is also an opening on Shah Deniz 2 which will run through the project Execute phase through start up and into operation. The OTL position demands a high level of leadership skills, technical and organisational ability and a strong personal commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental performance. Successful candidates will have an excellent understanding of all aspects of offshore oil and gas production operations with an established and proven track record in Operations. The position will be on a 3 week on 3 week off Rotation, reporting directly to the respective Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) and will manage the daily Operations and Maintenance activities. (Other Rotation of 4/4 may be worked if agreed with Management) The SD2 Project role will be base in the UK until mid-2016 when the Operations Team will mobilise to the construction yard in Baku to participate in commissioning activities. Both the Production and Maintenance Supervisory positions report to the OTL. This is an excellent opportunity to join the highly visible and significant contributor to the Company portfolio, with some of the largest producing/injection wells seen to date. The uniqueness of the Caspian Platforms’ design and particularly in some cases the Platforms interdependence on each other, for Power generation, Gas/Water Treatment and Injection, make this OTL role both interesting and desirable. The project role will be an exciting role in one of BP biggest and most strategic projects, opening up the Southern Corridor export route delivering gas from Azerbaijan to Europe. The successful candidate will be involved in setting up the operating processes for life of field and will gain experience of one of the most advanced high pressure subsea production systems that BP has designed. An Offshore Operations Team Leader position will be both a challenging and rewarding role in many respects, therefore requires an individual who has strong interpersonal and influencing skills, is self motivated, able to work with minimum supervision. A skill set is required that will enable and drive team development through Nationalisation, and is capable of working within a multi-cultural team to deliver continuous improvements to our processes. A strong technical and operations background is essential, along with a convincing track-record of coaching staff to sustained improvements in HSE and production performance. The ability to liaise closely with all other departments offshore and onshore are key to success in this role, with responsibility for setting the priority for production, project and construction activities which are fundamental to ensuring the delivery of the platform performance contract. The Offshore Operations Team Leaders is expected to be a leader in process safety, ensuring that process safety is not only embedded but is understood by both national and Ex-Pat staff, provide the leadership, support, drive and energy within the team to make Process Safety “business as usual” and be able to demonstrate year on year improvement through PSIM.
Key accountabilities
• Act as the Department Head for the Production and Maintenance teams comprising approximately 80 offshore personnel.
• Lead and demonstrate a visible commitment to safety management
• Ensure adequate resources are allocated within the Production department for utilisation of Control of Work processes
• Ensure adequate resources are allocated for the safe and continuous operations of process and utilities systems. Liaise with Field OOE’s and embed the Common Processes and specifically - Integrated Field Planning and Production Efficiency Improvements.
• Lead the Operations Team in the safe and efficient completion of agreed plans.
• Providing support and coaching to Team members.
• Familiar with Cost control measures and applications.
• Audit compliance with SSOW.
• Audit compliance with all Platform KPIs (e.g. Corrosion/ Maintenance/ Chemical)
• Ensure all Safety Critical Equipment is maintained within Inspection Criteria
• Offshore Focal Point for Technical Integrity of Topsides, Jacket and Pipelines
• Offshore Focal Point for EQ and MOC process
• Works closely with Onshore Support Teams, with respect to Offshore Process and Mechanical systems integrity.
• Responsible for ensuring Competence Standards are met via CMAS system, and ensuring the technician progression is achieved with a view to achieving the Nationalisation targets.
• Focal point for Activity Planning Process
• Lead the Team in Continuous Improvement initiatives utilising all Great Operator philosophies Additional accountabilities for the SD2 project role will also include:
• Developing operating procedures for SD2 offshore and subsea systems.
• Setting up operational systems for life of field
• Recruiting and developing the national workforce (SD2 plans to start up with in excess of 90% Azeri workforce at start up)
• Participate in commissioning and start up activities.
Essential Education
• Engineering/Science based Degree/HNC/HND, or relevant proven experience in an OTL or Operations/ Maintenance leadership role.
Essential experience and job requirements
• Azerbaijani citizenship
• 5 years relevant experience which includes, Operations Supervisory experience with practical bias and proven influencing and communicating skills.
• Experience or willingness to take on Emergency response duties as defined in the ERP and company standards. Specific duties include those of ‘OIM-B’ when an appointed OIM is not on board.
• Any suitable Candidate experience level will be considered for any final placement option.
• Control of Work experience is essential. ISSOW knowledge preferred.
• Sound knowledge of OMS and IM principles Other essential skills and knowledge
• Offshore Medical and Sea survival Training
• Ability to manage large multi-skilled and multi-cultural teams
• Azerbaijani citozenship is required
Other Requirements (eg Travel, Location)
• A strong personal commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental performance.
• Strong personal commitment, supervisory, leadership skills.
Desirable criteria & qualifications
• Commissioning and Certification experience would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of Well and Reservoir operations and Pipeline operations
• Previous Overseas and/or Offshore experience.
• Any CMAS Profile at 100%
• Any OIM-C qualification is of benefit.
• Previous experience in working with Contractors.
• Coaching experience and mentoring Team to develop their skill sets.
• Able to recognise risks, hazards, losses and prevent conflicts between activities
• SD2 Project Role – experience of a major project commissioning and start up. Previous experience of working in the Caspian region will be of benefit.
