Role synopsis
The Chirag and Deep Water Gunashli Platforms, part of BP’s portfolio in Azerbaijan produce a combined total of approximately 220mbd oil, 300mmsfd gas and inject a total of 470mbd water. A new offshore facility, West Chirag platform, will transfer from projects to operations phase end of 2013 and is expected to increase oil production and recovery of an additional 360 million barrels of oil from the ACG field.
Mechanical Engineer role is within Chirag & DWG Area Engineering Support Team (AEST) that supports the offshore installations.
The role of the AEST is to:
• Provide immediate engineering support for facilities following breakdowns or process upsets
• Work the near-term time horizon, 12 week or less. Deliver assigned engineering activities within 12 week plan
• Deliver defect elimination and continuous improvement, minimising losses and ensuring that repeat failures do not occur
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the resolution of Mechanical engineering issues on the Chirag, West Chirag and Deep Water Gunashli platforms and providing first line support and technical leadership on all mechanical issues.
This is a senior role that involves a strong element of coaching and mentoring of junior engineers with the aim of achieving long term and sustained full Mechanical Engineering support within Azerbaijan.
Key accountabilities
As part of the CDWG Area Engineering Support Team, the Mechanical Engineer is tasked with the following deliverables:
Provide day-to-day discipline technical support to site/installation (e.g. troubleshooting)
• Lead discipline improvements in plant reliability and optimisation: RCFA and defect elimination.
Review PEIT inputs (IPC, EHL, EFL, Grow IPC)
• Development of production improvement plan for plant and export chokes
• Responsible for ensuring relevant engineering documents and technical aspects associated with
Ops Procedures are up to date and their technical approval where delegated
• Define outline SoRs for improvements (modifications, overhauls, studies, repairs)
• Support Risk Management Process
• Responsible for technical review and approval of technical content associated with operating
procedures, first-time maintenance deferrals, set point changes and Risk Assessments within discipline
• Responsible for technical approval of platform & AES Team MoCs and review of Functional MoCs at agreed stage gates.
• Provide input / participates to HAZOP, LOPA, etc as required by study leads. • Support Site/Installation competence assurance process (candidate screening, technical approval of assessment program, etc).
Essential Education
Degree qualified or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Essential experience and job requirements
• Extended Mechanical Engineering experience
• Offshore experience is essential
