Job responsibilities

 

• Cashiers have to keep a record of how much money they had when they opened the store, how much money is earned when they closed the store, and the amount of change in a register drawer for the purpose of finding out when they are required to restock the change.

• In situations where more complex registers are utilized, the duties of a cashier may consist of cash and check collection, and handling necessary tasks related to credit cards and other means of defrayal. The cashier has to have a thorough understanding of each of these processes.

 

Skill Requirements

 

Good mathematical skills are required for this job. Although most modern cash registers or point-of-sale (POS) terminals automatically calculate fees and taxes based on the programming of their software.Experience in working with micros and cash machines.

 

Educational Requirements

 

A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required to be a hotel cashier. Completed coursework in hospitality management or customer service is considered a plus for hotel cashier applicants. Previous experience in cash handling, accounting, public relations or customer relations is desirable.
